Applied mathematicsGrade 12
About
Ryan Huang
Just a weirdo who likes doing random side quests, and occasionally taking them a little too seriously.
Most of my time goes toward research in neuroscience, food security and photonics. I'd like to study applied mathematics, mostly because I enjoy finding connections between things that don't look related at first.
Education
- Unionville High School
The question behind the research
Why does the same handful of equations keep showing up in optics, neurons and supply chains?
Beyond research
How I got here
Photonics taught me how much there is that I don't understand yet; that was the good part. Platepath, a food-access initiative, began with a simple question about finding affordable food and turned into a much bigger commitment than I planned, and it's where the food-security research started.
Little Lab Coats
Hands-on science for younger kids, built around experiments they can actually touch.
The Yorkline
A regional student newspaper covering schools across York Region. I lead student writers across multiple schools and edit the biweekly issues.
Off the clock
Every week I visit a senior home and help residents with activities. At home I look after my younger brother while my parents work. The rest of the time: lifting (bench is at 255) and guitar.
Work
I work at Subway, and I've been building websites for small businesses since 2022.
